Memorable Achievements:

  • In 2011, I was standing in front of my finals route at SCS Nationals, and right then broke through a mental barrier. For the first time in my climbing career I believed in my own ability, and came out on top because of it. Then, repeating winning Nationals after struggling with an injury that so threw me off mentally.

Why you love to climb and what Zero Gravity means to you:

  • Where do I begin? Climbing really is the most beautiful form of sport I could imagine. I definitely enjoy how mental the sport is in addition to the physical aspect, because the moment I step off of the ground I'm in my own head, and it's a challenge that I have to take on by myself. Climbing is all about how badly you want it or how hard you try, and it becomes pretty personal, which gives me all the more reason to want to get better. It has the whole "try until you succeed" aspect, so finishing a route or boulder problem that I got so frustrated with, took me so long, or thought was impossible at one point makes it the most rewarding thing I have ever experienced. Basically, I like to get shut down so I have higher goals to achieve, and something to work towards. With climbing you're never done; even the top climbers in the world are still learning how to climb more efficiently, how to fit their training to their own styles, and pushing their non-existent limits, and that keeps me always psyched to continue training. Climbers are their own kind, and we all get along pretty well for the most part, and I'm proud to be a part of such a community.

  • As for Zero Gravity, being on a team that is psyched to get strong and crush everything definitely makes it easier for me to stay psyched with them, and we all travel to new and beautiful places while enjoying the one thing we love to do.

Favorite place to climb/travel:

  • I haven't been to many "far away and exotic places," but I do love to travel. Bishop is the place to go in my eyes, but I've always dreamed of traveling to the Red River Gorge, KY, and going through Europe to find the best routes on Earth. Traveling through competitions is nice as well, especially meeting up with friends across the country that I haven't seen in a year or so, while still being with the team.
