When and Why Zero Gravity Started

The Zero Gravity Climbing Team was founded in 2001 by Scot Jenerik. The team originated as a means to prepare Cicada and Z’ev Jenerik for the Junior Competition Climbing Association (JCCA) local series and National Championships. This series evolved into USA Climbing. During training sessions at Mission Cliffs in San Francisco, other young athletes saw the passion and intensity that Cicada and Z’ev were training at and asked to join the team. Zero Gravity quickly developed into a nationally renowned climbing team. Touchstone Climbing, where the team trains, took on a greater interest and sponsored the team as their competition poster child. In 2011 Scott Cory, who grew up competing for Zero Gravity, was hired as the first assistant coach. During the next three years Scott developed into an exceptional coach and at the start of the 2014 season, was made a partner in the organization. In 2012 Joshua Foster was hired to run the Sacramento Pipeworks training sessions. Cicada Jenerik finished off her time with the team by becoming an assistant coach for the 2012 season. She was also in charge of the Developmental (pee-wee) team. Hannah Donnelly is currently an assistant athlete/coach.

Who is the team for?

Zero Gravity is a team of young aspiring climbers with enormous talents. Over the past decade, Zero Gravity has been one of the most successful youth climbing programs in the country. It is for youth climbers, age 7-19, who are interested in competition climbing and taking their skills to the next level. Through this program, you will learn how to become a better climber, competitor, and athlete. We work and play hard. Climbing is our passion and no one on the team would rather do anything else. Each member is hand picked by our coaches based on attitude, talent and our willingness to climb as hard as we can.

Team Success

Now in it’s 13th year, Zero Gravity has developed into one of the premier youth climbing teams in the world. Since 2008 Zero Gravity has placed on the podium for Teams at either or both the USA Climbing ABS and SCS National Championships. The team has had over 30 National Champions, well over 100 US National Team bids, multiple Pan American Champions and podiums and two World Youth Championships podium places. Scot Jenerik has been a US National Team Coach, Regional Coordinator, a member of the Coaches Committee and speaker at the Coaches Symposium.
